Ways to Relieve Pain Naturally

Unfortunately, pain is something that everyone will experience during their life. Whether it’s a minor issue like a bee sting, or a more serious chronic problem such as arthritis, your pain receptors will get activated at some stage. Luckily, modern science has found plenty of medication that can relieve pain.

But, medication is not the be-all and end-all. Some people find that medication simply doesn’t work, whereas others don’t want to experience the side effects or risk of addiction. So, for those people, here are some alternative methods for relieving pain the natural way…

1) Utilize ice

It may seem like the oldest trick in the book but cooling the area down with ice (frozen vegetables is more common) will genuinely help. Not only does it reduce any inflammation, it also intercepts the pain signals by subduing the nerve impulses.

2) Apply heat

If you don’t want to use ice, then you can flip the script and go to the opposite end of the scale by applying heat. Whether it’s a hot water bottle or a hot bath, the elevated temperature will soothe the area and reduce the discomfort. It will also increase blood flow and cut pain signals.

3) Find support

It’s not a direct pain reliever but finding a support system of people that are going through a similar thing will help in an indirect way. Just talking and receiving support will bolster your mind and empower you to manage the pain better.

4) Stretch regularly

Yes, it may be difficult to move freely when you’re in pain, but it’s crucial that you try otherwise the pain can get worse. If you start with gentle, easy stretches, your mobility will increase, and the pain will subsequently decrease. A simple online search will reveal some effective stretches.

5) Sun exposure

The sun isn’t just great for catching a tan or having fun on a beach, it’s a brilliant way to obtain vitamin D naturally. Research has shown that vitamin D helps in the absorption of calcium, which will help your body suppress pain.

6) Move more

When people experience pain they tend to limit their movement and use the excuse of ‘resting’. But, if you become more active, even if it’s just a light walk, your body will release endorphins which will combat the pain signals, anxiety and stress.
