We find it highly beneficial for individuals to learn how to have fun and be sober, simultaneously.
Oftentimes, individuals do not know what to do with their time, besides working, sleeping, watching television shows, and misusing drugs. Clients often say, “There is no point in staying sober, if I am going to be miserable. I might as well use drugs.” Many individuals with substance use disorders never developed coping tools to stay sober or learned the benefits of staying sober. We help teach our clients how to have fun and “let go” by participating in special recreating outings at least one time per week.
We offer recreational activities that include visits to places, such as, but not limited to:
water parks
ocean for deep sea fishing
mini golf centers
escape rooms
high speed go-cart race tracks
roller skating rinks
trampoline parks
laser tag parks
paddle boarding
bowling alleys
butterfly parks
batting cages
ice skating rinks
movies
kayaking
Everglades air boat rides
obstacle courses
museums
Florida Marlin’s baseball games
Individuals vote on activities one time per week, in order to learn to participate in new and fun activities that individuals would not otherwise do so when misusing drugs and alcohol. Individuals learn how to have fun without the use of chemical substances, and they learn which activities they would like to continue to partake in post discharge. Clients also visit the barber shop and nail salon biweekly.
