The 12-Step method of recovery is part of our comprehensive treatment.
12 Step Meetings

Hope
Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings.
We have found that individuals who immediately start the 12-step process have better outcomes; they feel a sense of belonging and a reduction in cravings and mental health symptoms that perpetuate drug and alcohol misuse. We offer transportation to AA, NA, CA, HA, CODA, ACOA, and Al-Anon meetings. For those who identify as LGBT and LGBT friendly, we offer transportation to 12-step meetings at LAMBDA. Clients are not forced to attend 12 step meetings, as we do not force the 12-step process onto clients. We encourage autonomy, as clients partake in their own decision-making processes to determine as to what recovery pathway they choose to take. Clients are encouraged to advocate for themselves, if clients wish to attend SMART recovery, Refuge Recovery, and/or any other recovery related meetings.
Please note there are instances in which people in recovery come to our clinical offices to provide meetings in the evening (i.e. usually called H/I), and such H/I individuals sign confidentiality agreements to ensure the confidentiality of clients receiving treatment. We find that clients often enjoy this practice, and several clients have asked individuals who bring 12 step meetings to our treatment center to be sponsored by said individuals, after hearing their experience, strength, and hope in recovery.
We offer transportation to religious services whether it be at a church, synagogue, temple and/or mosque. We support and encourage cultural differences amongst our community, and we encourage individuals to continue to partake in practices and routines that support mental wellness and recovery. We have had clients who wished to be baptized in the ocean, and we individualize our care to the cultural and unique differences of our clients. Our staff include people from varying backgrounds, including people of different races, sexual orientations, and religions, and many of our staff speak different languages. Our staff includes people who are in recovery, people who have never had a substance use disorder, and/or people who have been affected by loved ones with substance use disorders and mental health disorders. We respect the varied backgrounds of people, as our staff comes from varying backgrounds, and we are proud of this fact.
Clients often enjoy a collective community approach by orchestrating their own “Big Book Study” or, sometimes, “Bible Study” groups at community housing and/or at the beach at night. Clients who identify as Muslim have been provided the opportunity to attend Mosque on Fridays, and they were provided 5 times during the day to pray. We encourage and support proactive behavior on our clients’ part, in order for individuals to feel their own sense of accomplishments through their own pathways and work towards mental wellness and recovery.
Please note that all clients are transported to meetings and excursions with a kind, caring, and appropriate amount of supervision. As stated previously, we value autonomy, but we also want to ensure safety of individuals, and thus, we provide supervision at a level needed for the type of excursion provided. There is always a staff presence, but we choose to observe and monitor individuals from a place in which individuals feel respected and honored.
I know so many people say this but Galt Ocean saved my life. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be part of their program. They went to what seemed like the end of the earth for me, just to make me comfortable. The clinical staff was always there for me and continues to be there for me since I’ve gotten out. I would recommend galt to any of my friends who were still out there struggling.
