PHP in Fort Lauderdale, FL

What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program?

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is the first phase of treatment for many individuals. Clients come in 6 days a week, and most days consist of individual and group therapy, with family sessions included when appropriate. We tell families that this level of care exists because not everyone requires round-the-clock care in residential programs. A lot of people have supportive home environments or plan on living in supportive housing. PHPs allow them to address their addictive habits and patterns while being able to return home in the evening.

The minimum stay in a PHP is typically 30 days. However, longer 60- or 90-day stays provide a stronger foundation while reducing the risks of relapse. Length of stay is a personal choice, and you will never feel pressured or rushed through treatment. We had one client who worked at his own pace and ended up being with us for 9 months. Today, he has maintained his sobriety and lives and works independently. We never set an end date and adjust your plan as you make progress.

Who Benefits From Addiction PHP

Addiction PHP works well for those who need a highly structured program more than intensive outpatient or weekly outpatient visits. Someone stepping down from residential treatment is an ideal candidate, as is someone who completed detox but doesn’t need 24/7 care. We can help facilitate supportive housing needs when you have a difficult home environment. Our program is open to anyone 18 and older who is ready to make a change in their life.

Our PHP gives you the room to practice new coping skills and techniques with your peers and in one-on-one-sessions with your therapist. We also encourage family involvement when it is beneficial to your needs. Deciding to include family is entirely up to you. Many of our clients will start a job search if they don’t have one to return to or use some of their free time to volunteer. Laying the groundwork now helps you avoid falling back into old habits once you are ready to transition to a lower level of care.

Substance use disorder affects a large share of adults across the country. Fort Lauderdale is no exception. The 2024 National Survey on Drug Use and Health tracks these numbers each year. Findings show that 48.4 million people age 12 and older had a substance use disorder in the past year. Of those, an estimated 27.9 million people had an alcohol use disorder. Another 28.2 million people had a drug use disorder.

These numbers show why PHP addiction treatment in South Florida matters for local families. A full path of care gives someone a realistic way forward. PHP is the first step, followed by less intensive levels of treatment. Each step down gives clients more independence as they gain confidence. The goal is steady progress, not a rigid one-size-fits-all program.

Therapies and Services Offered During PHP

Every person who walks through our doors has their own needs. Their substance use history, triggers, and family situation are different. Our team understands each individual needs to have a personalized plan developed to fit them specifically. What works for one person may not work for another. At Galt Ocean Rehab Center, we offer a range of therapies and services, including:

  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one sessions give clients room to work through personal history and specific triggers.
  • Family Therapy: Loved ones join sessions to rebuild trust and learn how to support sobriety at home.
  • 12-Step Meetings: Regular meetings connect clients to a peer community that continues past treatment.
  • Nutrition Counseling: A counselor helps clients repair eating habits that substance use often disrupts.
  • Biofeedback Therapy: Sessions teach clients to notice and calm physical stress responses tied to cravings.

None of these work alone, and that is intentional. A person working on family trust might also use biofeedback before a hard conversation. Both pieces often carry over into other areas of treatment. Case management ties these pieces together behind the scenes. It coordinates appointments, therapies, and services with regular adjustments so nothing falls through the cracks.

How Our Fort Lauderdale Location Supports Healing

Location plays a real role in how people experience early treatment. Being near the Atlantic Ocean and water gives clients a place to step outside and breathe. A short reset between sessions helps, instead of feeling boxed in all day. It is important to remember we are not selling a vacation. Rather, we offer a peaceful setting to focus on addiction treatment and make real progress.

For instance, some of our clients mention walking on the beach clears their heads before group sessions. Having a calmer mind also makes it easier to start a tough family therapy conversation. Small resets like this can help you stay focused on treatment. While the ocean does not replace therapy, it does support the approaches we use every day to help our clients. We also often hear our setting helps them feel human again, not just like a patient.

Addiction doesn’t have a schedule on when and who it will affect. Whether you are a family member or an individual ready to explore treatment options, our team is here to answer your questions. We can have a conversation about our PHP in Fort Lauderdale, FL or our other programs to help you decide which one fits your needs. Contact us today to speak with one of our admissions coordinators.

FAQs About Our Addiction PHP Program

Still have questions about how PHP works day-to-day? Here are answers to what we hear most from clients and families.

Will insurance cover PHP treatment at Galt Ocean Rehab Center?

Most health insurance plans provide some coverage for PHP. However, the exact coverage varies based on your policy. Our admissions coordinators can quickly verify your benefits before you make any commitments.

Can I keep working while in PHP?

Working during PHP is difficult, as your days will be full. Most people find the downtime in the evenings and weekends better suited to practicing skills and self-care. There will be time for work later, once you are ready to transition to an IOP or OP.

What happens if I need to leave the program early?

We understand life happens, even when you are in treatment. Our team will explain the risks and other treatment options so you don’t have to stop rehab completely.

How involved will my family be during PHP?

Family sessions happen at least once a week, but the extent of your family’s involvement depends on your situation. Some people want to include their family. Others have an unstable home environment and choose to exclude family until they are ready.

Is detox required before starting PHP?

Detox is not always needed depending on the substance, how long you used, and how often. Our team can help arrange detox referrals if you need medical detox first before starting PHP.
